Carter Center Welcomes the Completion of Tunisia’s Voter Registration

Carter Center Welcomes the Completion of Tunisia’s Voter Registration

The Carter Center released a statement that emphasized how Tunisia’s voter registration process was conducted smoothly, but more importantly, “operational challenges remain for the High Independent Authority for the Elections (ISIE), particularly the allocation of voters to polling stations and a campaign to disseminate voter information to the public.”  The Carter Center suggests that public outreach should be emphasized by the ISIE and other organizations aimed at assisting Tunisians in the electoral process.
Voter registration began on July 11 for an initial period of three weeks and was extended through August 14 in an effort to increase participation.  About 1,000 registration centers, specifically, mobile teams, functioned under the supervision of the ISIE and its branch offices in the 27 electoral districts.
Alternatively, Tunisian police expressed anger over the charges of killing protesters and are responding by planning a sit-on Tuesday outside the main government building in Tunisia.
