First new hospital in Cardiff for more than
30 years


The brand new 100-bed
St David’s Hospital opened its
doors to its first patients in early
March 2002 – the first new hospital
in Cardiff for more than 30 years.
Built in partnership with Impregilo
Macob Consortium (IMC), under a Private
Finance Initiative, it brings together a
range of services for older people,
rehabilitation care, children’s services,
outpatient clinics and therapies. It also
includes a state-of-the -art dental unit –
the first of its kind in Wales to combine
teaching, research and treatment in a
community hospital setting.
