Ethiopian police claim to arrest Al Shabab infiltrators

Ethiopia said on Saturday that it has arrested 10 members of the Al- Shabab Islamist group in Somalia and the Orormo Liberation front in Ethiopia, whom it accused of preparing to launch terrorist activities in Ethiopia ahead of this month's elections.

Ethiopian police said on Saturday evening that the"terrorist" entered Ethiopia via Somaliland to carry out terrorist acts in the country.

Ethiopia has accused neighbouring Eritrea of giving training and arms to the "terrorists" to enter Ethiopia for their "terrorist mission."

According to the police, the ten members of Al Shabab and the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), which has a military presence in some parts of Ethiopia, which is also claiming to fight for the rights of the Oromo ethnic group in Ethiopia, who constitute the majority of the 80 million population of the country.

The Ethiopian police also said that they have seized a number of arms from the insurgents, whom they said will soon appear in court.

Ethiopia is preparing to hold national elections on 23 May 2010 when around 30 million people are expected to cast their votes.

Ethiopia has repeatedly accused neighbouring Eritrea of supporting such insurgents to carry out terrorist activities in the country.

However, Eritrea has always denied such accusations.
