ETHIOPIA WILL KEEP SUPPORTING SOMALIA

Bereket Simon
Addis Ababa, January (WIC) – Minister of Government Communication Affairs Office, Bereket Simon said that Ethiopia will keep on providing support to Somali brothers and sisters

Bereket told today WIC that though it has already withdrawn its troops from Somalia, Ethiopia, as it has been doing so far, will continue in providing support to Somalia so as to ensure lasting peace and stability in that country.

The Ethiopian defense force has successfully accomplished its mission during its two year stay in Somalia particularly in foiling the clear and present danger Al-shababa had paused against Ethiopia's security.

Bereket said that the Somali people have to exploit the opportunity created by Ethiopia's intervention towards bringing peace and stability in Somalia in particular and in the Horn of Africa in general.

Ethiopia's presence in Somalia was meant to facilitate agreements among Somali clans and also to create conducive atmosphere for the transitional national government so that it could ensure lasting peace and stability in the country, he said.

Bereket said that there are lots of disputes in various corners of the continent that are pulling back development, democracy and good governance efforts.

Though unwarranted external intervention, poverty, bad governance have been aggravating instability in the horn of Africa, there are also internally stable countries like Ethiopia, Bereket said, and added that members of the IGAD should pursue in dealing with issues of ensuring lasting peace in the region.
