1,001 US troops killed in Afghanistan: "With two more US soldiers killed in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday, the death toll of American soldiers, from day one, has surpassed the 1,000 mark.
The two soldiers were killed when an improvised explosive devise went off bringing the total to nine Americans in just two days, and the total deaths in 104 months to 1,001, according to CNN calculations.
Afghanistan is getting deadlier by the day, CNN said. From 2001 through 2006, the American casualty rate never reached 100 in any single year. But that number started going up in 2007 and spiked to more than 300 last year. If the current rate continues, 2010 will be the deadliest year of the war, nearly a decade after it started."
