Somaliland: Silanyo Urges Kulmiye MPs to Campaign for Party Candidates

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The ruling Kulmiye political party is determined to maintain status quos.

Kulmiye intends to maintain the status quos by utilizing the services of its members of parliament as official campaigners during the forthcoming local council elections slated for November 28, 2012.

According to the president H.E Ahmed Mahmoud Silanyo who officiated at a meeting with party MPs and leaders, it is imperative for all party MPs to spearhead campaigns for Kulmiye local council candidates in their respective regions (read constituencies).

"In order for the party to maintain its status as one of the three registered national parties we all must stand shoulder to shoulder"-Said the president

The meeting by party bosses and MPs that intended to establish Kulmiye's local election campaign strategies ended in acquiescence with the president's advice to put aside normal differences thus stand shoulder to shoulder in a united front against the other contesting eight political groups.

In a statement released by the presidential spokesperson Mr. Abdilahi Mohamed Dahir "Ukuse" the president who is also the party's founding chairman informed the meeting that this is the first election for Kulmiye to contest as the ruling party, therefore a need for deter former opposition campaign procedures

"We are the ruling party competing with 8 other political entities which are intent on dislodging us from office, therefore start campaigns now in your respective constituencies without ever forgetting to maintain the dignity of ruling party," said the president.

The three official national political parties allowed by the Somaliland constitution to be registered at any one given time are selected from the top three in local council elections.

The current three of KULMIYE, UDUB and UCID are in competition to retain their registration after local government elections with the six newly registered political groups of WADANI, UMADDA, HAQSOOR, DALSAN, and NASIYE & RAYS.
