Berbera-The newly elected local councillors of Berbera have elected a new mayor and deputy-mayor.
After a fierce competition between several candidates and alleged interference from the presidency .The new councillors selected Abdi-Shakur Mohamed Hassan "Idin" as the new mayor of Berbera. The new deputy mayor is Muse Abdillahi Ibrahim "Ya'ub".
The long time mayor of Berbera, Abdalla Mohamed Arab "Sandhere" had decided not to run again for the office. According to reliable sources, the former mayor refused a request from the presidency that a newly elected councillor from the same community as President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud "Silaanyo" be elected as deputy mayor. Abdalla Sandhere's rejection led to pressure from the highest office in the country to block his attempt at reelection for the post of Mayor.
