بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
الحمد الله
Once Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم was walking with a Bedouin whom he had never seen before and one their way they walked pass a tree, he صلى الله عليه و سلم cut of twig of the tree to get a siwak. Then he broke it into two pieces and gave the straight piece to the Bedouin whilst he kept with him the crooked one. Seeing this, the man asked Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم , "O' Messenger of Allah, why did you give me the straight piece but kept crooked one with yourself?" And the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم replied, "Man will be asked of a moment of companionship and when I am asked I want to say that I gave my companion precedence over myself!"
Lessons to be learnt from this incident:
1)Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم breaking the twig to get a siwak not for just himself but also for his companion shows that he was a practical example of his own saying, "None of you truly believes (in Allah and in His religion) until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself" He gave the better piece to that man whom he had never seen nor met before. And nowadays, when we meet our brothers and sisters we try to be greedy and selfish and try to do actions that would just be of benefit to us not to those brothers and sisters whom we have known for a long time.
2)The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم giving precedence to the other man over himself just to be safe on the Day of Judgement from the blame that he had been unjust with a stranger. How many a times we treat a stranger like this?
