Somaliland: “The SFG Should Not Insinuate on Issues not Discussed nor Agreed Upon in Istanbul”

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Sovereignty of Somaliland is a foregone conclusion and citizens are not in waiting for recognition from any quarters having duly recognized their country as independent thence self-ruling.

This was stated by the somaliland foreign minister Mohamed Bihi Yuns who also urged the Somalia federal government-SFG in Mogadishu to desist from insinuating on issues that not discussed nor agreed upon during the just conclude fifth phase of Talks between Somaliland and somalia in Istanbul Turkey.

Addressing the media at the Egal International Airport VIP lounge where he was flanked by his Commerce and Investment colleague Dr Mohamed Abdilahi Omar upon their return from official duties in various Countries abroad Mr. Bihi said that Somaliland shall not hold any talks with the SFG in either Mogadishu or Hargeisa as stated by some officials from that government.

"The possibility of holding talks with Somalia in either Hargeisa or Mogadishu is untenable no to mention that the sovereignty of Somaliland is a foregone conclusion thence not irrevocable in its entirety" said the foreign minister who led the seven man somaliland team of negotiators during the three days of talks with somalia in the Turkey that culminated with the nine points Istanbul II communique.

Elaborating on the reasons behind the rejection of Hargeisa or Mogadishu as a possible venue for future talks with the SFG Mohamed Bihi said the change of venue was neither discussed thence never agreed upon during the last talks of mid his month thence Somaliland authorities are in any mood nor have the time to start dwelling on non-agreements and instead would rather concentrate on the implementation of Istanbul II.

Insinuations that future Talks between the two countries shall be held consecutively in the two cities of Hargeisa and Mogadishu has been emanating from SFG authorities and more particularly b top Honcho President Hasan Mahmud Sheikh who never touting that the mission of his selected presidency is reunification with Somaliland.

Somalia wants Unity at all costs

On the un-tenability of Somaliland's sovereignty Mr. Bihi had this to say "Revoking the 1960 union with Somalia in 1991 was courtesy of an overwhelming decision by citizens thence never for discussions with any outside authority let alone the Mogadishu based SFG"

Following the defeat of then Somalia Dictator Siad Barre in 1991 Somalilanders meeting in Burao own decided to pull out of their 1960 voluntary later turned fitful union with Somalia-Italia after a brutal civil war that saw the ragtag SNM militias engage and Defeat Barre's forces then acclaimed as he second strongest army in Africa.

The 1991 Burao decision was reinforced by 97% of citizens during the 2001 nationwide referendum termed by a diversified worldwide observer mission as free, fair and to international standards.

who since leaving his lucrative job with the UN mission in Darfur Sudan mid last year to assume the mantle of leading Somaliland's foreign policy has on several occasions informed all and sundry that Somalilanders are never going to revoke their sovereignty thence the subject is unworthy of discussions.
