Somaliland: National Library Dream Turns to Reality

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – A leisurely stroll through the streets of Hargeisa by the Somaliland president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo concluded with the official launch of construction for the Somaliland National library.
Flanked by government officials with hundreds of ordinary citizens forming the presidential entourage the head of state who started his casual stroll from the presidency, the head of state launch the realization of a national library by laying the foundation stone at a site allocated by the government in Hargeisa.
"I extend my personal compliments and those of entire citizenry to the men and women of Somaliland origin based in the Diaspora that came up with the idea of a national library and work tirelessly for its realization" said president Silanyo

The library which is as a result of the relentless pursuit of Mr. Ahmed Dahir a British-Somalilander and Somaliland National TV English service newscaster Ms Salma Abdirahman is partially funded by the Somaliland youth in the Diaspora and the government of Somaliland with a huge amount in pledges from local businesses and citizens pending.

"I take this opportunity to thank president Silanyo for gracing this historic occasion, the Somaliland government for providing the land and both the ministers of Education and Planning Ms Zamzam Abdi and Dr Sa'ad Shire respectively for their indefatigable and relentless encouragement as well as all somalilanders both in the country and Diaspora for varied support" Said library founder Ahmed Dahir at the foundation laying ceremony.
Enjoying the company of his citizens entourage president Silanyo then completed his leisurely stroll with a similar function that saw him perform a similar stone laying function thence ensure a glimmer of light shall pervade headquarters of the country's ministry of posts and telecommunications whose staff work under strenuous conditions forced upon them by dilapidated buildings which are also dark even at noon.

It is now expected that the renovation of the ministry of Posts and telecommunications buildings which is fully funded by the government shall reverse performance at the government department mandated with supervision of Telecommunications and the nonexistent postal service with the ultimate outcome of enhancing central coffers through revenue (tax) collection not to mention the establishment of a much needed postal service in the country.
