Somaliland: Former Cabinet Members Running Local Council
Hargeisa- The deputy chair of Rays, Aden Dhoolayre, a former minister of Agriculture and Justice in the last administration of former Dahir Rayale Kahin, and a presumed candidate for the most senior office in the country has unexpectedly turned in the list of candidates from Rays for the Hargeisa municipality.
Aden Dhoolayare, one of the young turks in UDUB and the last administration, had been expected to pursue a private business ventures, but has decided to remain in politics.
Aden Dhoolayare , after his departure from UDUB, founded an organisation called Wadajir which subsequently amalgamated with Rays.
Aadan Dhoolayare was one of the young technocrats living overseas who had returned to Somaliland in order to serve the nation with their expertise. However, at that time, he was one of the many members of the Rayale government derided as "Shilin gaajaysan" (Money hungry) by the then opposition party, KULMIYE.
Which is somewhat ironic considering the current government of President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud "Silaanyo" is full of "Shiling gaajysan" who neither have Aden Dhoolyare's education, skill or talent.
All in all, Aden Dhoolyare's participation in the forthcoming election highlights the attraction of political engagement irrespective of its level. Having been a former minister some would demur at the prospect of serving at the lower, but, each person can contribute to the country at any level.
