Somaliland: EU Injects €50 Million

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Massive developments are anticipated in a number of public service sectors.
The European Union has injected 50 million Euros ($64 millions) to the country as part of its contribution towards the development of a number of sectors.
This was revealed during a press briefing jointly conducted by a visiting EU team and members of the council of ministers after a meeting the two sides held at the ministry of planning headquarters in Hargeisa.
According to the planning minister Dr Saad Ali shire the €50 million donation is geared towards the development of public service sectors like Education, Fisheries, Minerals, Water and Agriculture.
The EU representative to Somalia and Somaliland Ambassador D'Urso informed that this funding that shall be submitted directly to the government of Somaliland comes after proposals by the minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdilahi Omar and Planning minister Dr Saad Ali.
Ambassador D'Urso who further informed that this is the biggest direct EU donation to Somaliland said that he was confident that the targeted sectors will see an improvement thus sustainable alleviate poverty nationwide.

isters of Foreign Affairs and Planning extended their respective thanks to the EU delegation and more specifically to Amb. Cervone D'Urso who has strengthened relations between the EU and Somaliland within the short period after of his appointment.
Amb D'Urso was in the country a fortnight ago to officially inaugurate the EUCAPNESTOR project funded by the EU and geared towards strengthening the maritime capacities of Horn of African Countries
Within the EUCAP NESTOR project this nation will see its coast guards receive support with training and equipment with other components relating to the rule of law that will see members of the judiciary receive relevant support.
