Abadula confers with his Somali counterpart

Addis Ababa, November 23

(WIC)-Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives, Abadula Gemeda held discussions on Tuesday with a Somali delegation headed by Speaker of the country’s transitional parliament, Hassan Sheik Aden.

The discussions were focused on two major issues: the weakening of Alshabab thanks to measures taken by Kenya and the international community, and ways of strengthening the Somali transitional parliament.

The Somali official on the occasion underscored the need for a strong parliament in the efforts to form a stable government in his country.

He urged the international community to provide support for the purpose. He also called on the Ethiopian parliament to extend capacity building assistance.

Abadula for his part expressed Ethiopia’s commitment to supporting the Somali transitional parliament on its own as well as through the IGAD parliamentary union.

The strengthening of the transitional parliament is decisive for the future Somalia, he stressed. The Somali official said the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia is currently in full command of Mogadishu while Kenyan forces have gained heartening victory.

Abadula for his part urged the Somali Transitional Federal Government to take advantage of this golden opportunity. (ERTA)
