"Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed – else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die." Dwight D. Eisenhower

The American Declaration of Independence of "1776" was a document that said that the thirteen colonies were free and independent of England. In the same token the formation of Somaliland's second Republic in "1991" was also our declaration of independence. May 13, 2010 distribution of Somaliland identity cards which will be used as voter registration card also is a true testament to the our independence and freedom. The people of this land are the masters of their destiny.

The distribution of this type of sophisticated biometric cards is very rare in Africa. We may be the third country that uses such an advanced version of ID cards.

"A nation or civilization that continues to produce soft-minded men purchases its own spiritual death on the installment plan." Martin Luther King

May 13th 2010 is an unprecedented day, a great day, a blessed day, a day of reckoning, a day of so many success stories happening at the same time, a day that  will enter a golden page in the history of Somaliland, a day everybody was chanting " Barbarkay ka Dhacdaa Waa Bakayla Qaleen." Nobody can tell whether or not the so many things that  happened at the same time today are by accident or by design. The day started with people lining up to receive their identity and election cards. The lines were long, quiet, the civility and mannerism exhibited by these citizens was exemplary. Of course there will be some glitches here and there, and this is something that happens every where but over all it was an  already a success story.

The day was a busy news day where so many critical things were happening at the same time. The peoples' unquenchable thirsty to have the right to vote is written all over their faces. There was also an undeniable indication that the people of this land are politically mature, and mediocre leaders who used to feast on the peoples' divide must take notice. The  peoples' power shown here is inspiring and moving. Others also need to copy what has happened here today. This also a powerful  a warning to the weak, unpopular African dictators who decided to deny Somalilanders their right for self-determination. They need to know the clock is ticking on them and Somalilanders will at the end of the day will have the last laugh. Today Somalilanders are sending them a clear message that they have no power over the people of this land. All mediocre leaders must take notice also and must act and behave like real leaders or else this new peoples' power at the ballot box will overwhelm , engulf and erase them from the political arena.

If Allah wills we will see the results of the power of the people displayed here today on June 26, 2010. The voting power demonstrated here today will definitely send so many reigning mediocre leaders to retirement. May 13 marked a turning point in the history of this country. When you add all the components of today's  chain of events such as citizens lining up to receive the Somaliland Identity cards, and the Election Commission's  declaration of a specific election day. This miraculous moments and events have made Somalilanders through the country burst into happiness and joy, one can notice the high fives every where. The air was filled with hope and optimism. Moreover, Somalilanders need to watch your freedom. You must know freedom is not free.

You have to understand the fact that you have bundles of sworn enemies who hates our resilience, independence, personal sacrifice and progress. I will sign out my piece by saying. Be vigilant, open your eyes, fight clannism, and silence the divisive and destructive elements among us.

"A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus." Martin Luther King
