Somalia’s federal government has announced the formation of an 11 member committee to organize a national funeral service for the country’s former Prime Minister Abdirsaq Haji Husein who passed away in the US city of Minnesota on Friday.

The Deputy Prime Minister and the Minster of Religious Affairs Ridwan Hersi Mohamed, who is also the chairman of the organizing committee for the funeral service of the late PM, said that his committee held an emergency meeting after their appointment on Saturday and decided where the body of the former prime minister will be laid to rest.

“The body of the late Somali Prime Minister Abdirisaq Haji Husein will be buried here in the capital Mogadishu where the state funeral will also take place,” he said adding that his committee and the late prime minister’s family members will jointly decide on which day his body will be flown to Mogadishu for the funeral service.

Meanwhile, the book of condolence has been launched at the presidential palace in Mogadishu. A national three-day of mourning has also been announced, according to the state-run media.
