Police: Accused con man met women on dating site
KISSIMMEE, Fla., June 7 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said a man accused of bilking women out of hundreds of thousands of dollars with a phony business used a dating website to find his victims.
Osceola County investigators said Scott Campbell allegedly convinced women he met on dating websites to give him a total exceeding hundreds of thousands of dollars by convincing them to invest in his phony music business, "Bank Deposits Only Records," WESH, Orlando, reported Friday.
Police said Campbell told the women the business included an "American Idol"-style talent search contest, and he showed them photos of himself with celebrities including Ludacris, Anthony Hamilton and Wendy Williams to make his business seem legitimate.
Detectives said Campbell used the money to fuel his gambling habit.
The suspect was arrested in Flagler County and will be returned to Osceola County to face charges, authorities said.
