Somaliland: UDUB To Boycott Upcoming Election’s Says Waran-cadde

One of the Somaliland most prominent opposition party UDUB has today announced that they will boycott the upcoming local elections which are due to be held on the 28thof November this year.

This was revealed by the party’s Presidential aspirant Mr. Ali Mohamed Waran –cadde during a press conference which was held at Hotel Kaah, Hargeisa today.

The Presidential aspirant said the reason which prompted his party to boycott the upcoming local elections was due a sinister plot to discredit his party which is been waged by registration of parties committee(PPR&VC ).

Mr. Waran-cadde told reporters that the registration of parties committee last week had announced that his candidacy was null and void because he had failed to fulfill the rules set by the registration.

The PPR&VC statement revoking the waran-cadde candidacy was released on 4 September 2012, and it stated that the candidature of both Waran’ade and his deputy has been revoked because the party had contravened Article 11 of the constitution.

Mr. Waran –cadde said he was informing to the people of Somaliland and the international community that the current atmosphere in which the registration body is conducting the process does not allow free and fair election to take place in the country.

The decision by the PPR&VC was prompted by the fact that the Waran-cadde candidature did not emanate from the party’s general assembly, the registration body further asked the party leadership to respect the laws of the country.

Other unconfirmed reports say the former President of Somaliland Dahir Rayale Kahin and also the chairman of UDUB had sent a letter to the President Silanyo requesting him to postpone the upcoming elections.

Lastly the presidential aspirant said that they plan to take the matter to court in the coming days to contest the PPR&VC decision.
