ERIGAVO (Somalilandsun) – The unofficial participation in Somalia's Reconciliation and constitution making process is treason.
This was said by Traditional leaders from Sanaag region during a meeting in Erigavo town where they declared support for the recent 5 points agreement between the central government and traditional leaders in Hargeisa.
They said the agreement created a unanimous national stand on non-participation in the Somalia reconciliation and constitutional making process. They asked the government to act stringently against the 3 traditional leaders from Sanaag who are alleged to be already in Mogadishu as participants.
The traditional leaders who included Sultans and Aqils (chiefs) said that though the country celebrates 21 years of yet to be recognized sovereignty, it remains solid thus the need to deter any activities that might impinge on our nationhood.
While promising to continue working tirelessly for peaceful co-existence the traditional leaders said they will not sit aside and let anyone destroy the solidity of Somalilanders and Somaliland. They informed anti-Somaliland elements that the country derives its identity from its borders and flag thus severe repercussions for anyone who tries to alter or destroy them.
"Our borders and flag are sacrosanct thus taboo to alter them in anyway" Said the leaders
While urging their 3 compatriots in Mogadishu to return to home immediately, the traditional leaders said if the duo absconds now from their paymasters in Mogadishu they (traditional leaders) will facilitate pardon thus avoid prosecution on treason charges. They termed the Mogadishu sojourn as commercial venture as we are aware that any traditional leader from Somaliland participating in the Somalia process will be paid a lot of money on top of daily expenses.
"We are national leaders and our decisions should be people based and not based on personal interest"
At the same time the Sanaag traditional leaders commended the regional governor for his relentless development efforts in the region. They promised continuous support to the regional authorities thus achieve improved community livelihoods and strengthen prevalent peaceful co-existence.
The Sanaag regional Governor Adan Diriye Geel-jire who was present at the meeting thanked the leaders and asked them to bear with him for persistent requests for support, Said he, "Development achievements garnered would not have been possible without your support"
The traditional leader meeting with over 20 attendees was chaired by Sultan Abdilahi Abdi 'Sultan Koor' assisted by Chief Aqil Ahmed Khayr and Chief Aqil Mahmoud Boohe.
