Central Committee votes in new officialsBy: Yusuf M Hasan

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Musa Bihi has officially been confirmed as the chairman of the Kulmiye Political party.

The confirmation was effected by the party's central committee during the 2nd and final day of the committee's meeting in Hargeisa. Mr. Musa Bihi who replaces founding chairman president Ahmed Mahmoud Silanyo has been acting party leader since his boss resigned in mid-2010.

Others elected to high party office include Mr. Mohamed Kahin Ahmed who was elected 1st deputy chairman, Mr. Wabeeye 2nd chairman and Mr. Hasan Saeed Yusuf as secretary general.

The party also revoked the membership of Mr. Abdirahman Abdiqadir who was subsequently expelled after being stripped of his title as 2nd chairman. The expelled politician who was forcibly removed by police from the meeting said that his expulsion was contrary to party regulations as only the General assembly which elected him has the authority to remove him from office and expel him from the party.

The expulsion follows party claims that Mr. Abdirahman has consistently contravened party policies and constitution as well as overtly opposed polices of the President and his administration. The expelled politician is in hospital following spinal injuries he sustained during the eviction from the meeting by police.

The party elections which brought an end to the two days of deliberations by the Central Committee came as a result of resignation, promotion, expulsion and death of former bearers as indicated below

•New Chairman Musa Bihi replaces president Silanyo who resigned in 2010.

•1st chairman Mohamed Kahin Ahmed replaces Musa Bihi who doubled as both acting chairman and 1st chairman from 2010.

•2nd chairman Mohamed Yusuf Wabeeye replaces former holder Abdirahman Abdiqadir who was expelled by the same meeting.

•Secretary General Hasan Saeed Yusuf who has been acting in the post since August 2011 replaces late Keyse Hasan Igge who died in office.

Journalists in the country are especially proud of the official confirmation of the new secretary general who is the former editor in chief of Jamhuuriya newspaper and holds the national Journalist record of journalist of arrests. In the span of his illustrious career as journalist Mr. Hasan was detained fifteen times on charges of publishing false and controversial articles.
