couple caught as they tried to smuggle nine toddlers into the country



The Governor of Sahel Region of Mahamoud Saleeban Ramah confirmed that they are holding two suspected smugglers and nine toddlers believed to have been smuggled from Yemen.

Berbera Port Police revealed that they apprehended a couple when they failed to produce proper documents for the all nine toddlers in their care, the toddlers are believed to have been stolen from Yemen, said the Governor of Sahel region Mohamoud Ali Suleiman Ramah.

These nine toddlers are of ages between one to three years are believed to have been smuggled from their parents in UNHCR refugee camps in Yemen. The exact locations of the camps are not known.

The suspected human traffickers one man and a woman are believed to be of Oromo descend.

The Director of Sahel region Mr. Ramah speaking to the press, said the after interrogating the couple at the central station they gave contradicting accounts, at first the couple claimed that the children were theirs, but later said that some of the children aren’t theirs After an investigation by the police they revealed they had the consent of the children parents.

The Governor of sahel region said investigations are still going on and that we shall release full details of our investigation on a later date,he added that efforts to contact Yemeni authorities were underway.
