Somali govt minister apprehended in Somaliland
He is the first TFG minister to be captured in the breakaway republic of Somaliland.
Authorities of the breakaway Somali republic of Somaliland on Thursday apprehended a minister from the transitional federal government after he unexpectedly landed at an airport in Hargeisa.
Abdirashid Mohammed Ali, the deputy minister of public works and housing of Somalia's transitional federal government was seized as he was landed at Egal international airport in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, according to Ilmi Roble Furre, Somaliland’s police chief.Furre didn’t give further details. However, the minister, Ali, is said to have been visiting his family in Hargeisa. He hails from the Somaliland territories.
The Somali government has not yet released any about the arrest of its minister.He is the first TFG minister to be captured in Somaliland.Separately, a Norwegian delegation on Thursday arrived in Hargeisa to meet with Somaliland leaders including Ahmed Mohamoud Silanyo, the president. Raymond Johansen, Norway’s deputy foreign mister who was leading the delegation,met with Somaliland authorities on several issues including beefing up security and how Norway to give financial support to the administration.
