Every Muslim is required to pay Zakat-ul-Fitr at the conclusion of the month of Ramadan as a token of thankfulness to God for having enabled him to observe fasts. One of the main purpose of Zakat al-Fitr is to provide those who fasted with the means of making up for any errors during the month of fasting. Zakat al-Fitr also gives the poor the means to celebrate the festival of breaking the fast (Eid al-Fitr) along with the rest of the Muslims. Zakat-ul-Fitr is part of the fast of Ramadan and is characterized by the following elements:
