Number Of Voters Registered Exceeds That of 2005 National Elections by 3 million

March 5, 2010 -- The number of voters registered across the nation to cast votes in the forthcoming national elections is greater than that of registered in the 2005 election by three million, the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia disclosed here on Thursday.

Board Chairperson, Prof. Merga Bekana told ENA on Thursday that according to data received so far, 29 million voters have been registered across the nation, though the board has not received the figures from all constituencies.

The number of voters registered in the 2005 national elections stood at 25.6 million with the exception of the Somali State.

The board has earlier anticipated that 30 million voters will be registered.

Prof, Merga said the board believes that that the number of voters would exceed that of the anticipated when it receives number from all constituencies.

He further said this is great victory for the nation and the public at large as to contesting political parties. (ENA)
