Mr. Silaanyo meets senior Foreign Office officials in London

LONDON, Friday 29 May 2009 (Somaliland Globe) – The leader of Somaliland's KULMIYE party, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud Silaanyo, who is on a visit in Britain, has met on Thursday senior British Foreign Office officials in London.

Mr. Silaanyo, who was accompanied in the meeting by his Foreign Secretary, Dr. Mohamed A Omar, has briefed British diplomats on Somaliland current political situation and particularly on the issues surrounding delayed presidential elections.

Speaking to The Somaliland Globe, KULMIYE Foreign Secretary said that Mr. Silaanyo had spoken about KULMIYE's view on the consistent delays in holding presidential elections in Somaliland and the implications these may have on the country's democratisation process and the search for the international recognition.

"We also spoke about the on-ongoing efforts aimed at ensuring that there will be no further delays in elections, and ways of widening the international support to Somaliland development needs". Said Dr. Omar.

Mr. Silaanyo's visit to the Foreign Office has followed on talks Dr. Mohamed A Omar had with the Foreign Office including a meeting with Lord Mallach–Brown, the British Foreign Office Minister for Africa, in February this year.
