Somaliland Celebrated Another May 18 - Independence Day

Somaliland celebratted another May 18 independence day. We at Somaliland American Council would like to say "Happy Holiday" to all Somalilanders where you are. It gave us a warm feeling that all the Somaliland Diaspora communities in North America, Europe, South East Asia, South Africa, East Africa, and Australia have celebrated this day with enthusiasm, hope, and happiness. The Somaliland Diaspora collectively sends its wishes to the people of Somaliland. There are many challenges and opportunities for Somaliland; the presidential elections on September 27, 2009 is another opportunity to shine, and it is also a challenge because it brings the usual election year divisiveness, and distractions, at a time when there is serious security threats from Al-Shabaab and those who support it. Everyone can see what is happening in Somalia and Somaliland cannot afford to be distracted from the security challenges in the region. We call the government, the opposition parties, and the people of Somaliland to be vigilant and protect the peace that served you well.
