BEIRUT: Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Franco Frattini saluted the spirit of democracy that emanated from Lebanon's parliamentary elections held on Sunday, the Italian National News Agency (ANSA) reported on Wednesday. "The result of the Lebanese Parliamentary elections is a result that we highly appreciate, since it has been reached through a strong Lebanese participation in the elections and shows the will of the Lebanese people to take part in the country stabilization process,
" Frattini said in Sofia. He added he was confident that the winning coalition will be able to "assure the strengthening of collaboration with the West and Italy, under the leadership of President [Michel] Sleiman whom we appreciate." The Italian minister stressed that Italy will provide all necessary support to Lebanon's stability. Italy heads the beefed-up UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) tasked with preserving peace and stability in south Lebanon. - The Daily Star
