"We will use that [proof] to build a case against the Israeli political and military leaders as a criminal crime," Osama Hamdan, Hamas' chief representative and senior leader in Lebanon told Press TV on Tuesday. Speaking from Beirut, Hamdan said a meeting of European and Arab lawyers will take place next week in which the means of convicting Israel for war crimes at The Hague will be discussed. Around 230 international lawyers have announced that they are set to file a lawsuit at the international Criminal Court against Israel for its policies in Gaza. A French lawyer working on the lawsuit, Jill Devier made the announcement at a Sunday night anti-Israel protest in Paris. More than 50 international lawyers and jurists are working on a dossier, which alleges that Israel has committed crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel waged a 23-day war on the defenseless population of the Gaza Strip on December 27 to allegedly stop Hamas rockets from reaching Israel. Press TV correspondents on the ground in Gaza have received confirmation that at least 1340 Palestinians were killed and at least 5320 others were wounded during the conflict. The United Nations considers the figures credible. The onslaught has cost the Palestinian economy at least $1.6 billion with some 4,000 residential buildings having been reduced to rubble and 16,000 other houses becoming damages during the conflict.
