Day 12 – Gaza Update

3 hour window leaves 21 hours for slaughter

The Israeli Government's approach to human rights defies logic – they conclude it is wrong to bombard and slaughter the innocent people of Gaza for three hours each day, but they can bomb, kill and maim for the remaining 21 hours.

The real facts are that the only way the Israeli Government, as a member state of the United Nations, can live up to their international obligations is to stop their barbaric slaughter of innocent people in Gaza - not for three hours a day, but for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

PSC are not alone in their demands to allow medical and food aid into Gaza – The normally reserved voice of the United Nations grows louder by the day in their condemnation of the Israeli Governments refusal to allow essential medical and food aid in.

Massacre of the Innocents

By the time many of you read our day 11 Gaza update that told you 3 children had been killed on in an attack on a UN school in Jabaliya refugee camp most of you will have seen the news that 40 people were slaughtered. The death toll now stands at 47.

Justifying the attack on the BBC last night the Israeli PM's spokesman countered the UN's statement that no Hamas operatives had been at the school by describing there evidence as the 'Fog of War.'

There is no fog when it comes to the events at the school yesterday. The UN had sent the GPS co-ordinates to the IDF. They had explained that the school was being used as a shelter against the bombing – yet they still bombed it – That by any definition is a war crime.

Remember, Remember the 4th of November

11 days into the conflict and the Israeli spin machine has been telling the world that they have undertaken this military campaign because the agreed ceasefire was breached - Yet what they haven't told the world is that it was the Israeli's that broke the ceasefire.

On the night of 4-5th November in a large scale military operation six Palestinians were killed and seven injured, including two civilians.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) recorded the attack in its Protection of Civilians in the OPTs weekly report covering the period of 29 Oct – 4 Nov, 2008, and states that Palestinian militants resumed rocket firing in response to this attack.

Drawing its information partly from the IDF's own account of its action, the report says:" According to the IDF, during the Israeli military incursion into Gaza, the IDF destroyed a tunnel leading to the border between Gaza and Israel which could have been utilized for military attacks on Israel.

"On the eve of 4 November, an IDF reconnaissance unit entered Deirel-Balah in central Gaza Strip. Armed clashes broke out between Palestinian militants and Israeli forces. During the first clash, one Palestinian militant was killed and five others injured; four IDF soldiers were also injured. In addition, a Palestinian house was destroyed, and seven of its 23 inhabitants were detained, including several women, one of whom was injured.

"During the clashes, the IDF demolished green houses, a poultry farm, and water well. Another house was occupied and used as a military post. In retaliation, Palestinian militants fired rockets and mortars towards Israel—some of which landed inside Gaza; no Israeli casualties were reported.

"Israel fired a missile east of Khan Younis at a group of militants manning a rocket launcher, killing five Palestinians. The clashes continued until the Israeli forces withdrew from Gaza in the early morning hours of 5th November."

From 5th November Israel imposed a total blockade of all commercial and humanitarian goods into the Gaza Strip.

Day 11 Gaza Update
598 Palestinians dead - Over 3000 injured

48 hours after the Israeli Army drove their tanks into the densely populated areas of Gaza and began their land invasion, independent evidence from Gaza shows that the majority of those being killed and injured are innocent women and children.

According to the United Nations teams on the ground, over 110 people have died since the land invasion with over 2,500 injured. That means since the Israeli's began their attacks 11 days ago there has been an average of 60 people dieing each day.

And contrary to the Israeli spin machine the deaths are not of combatants but of innocent people. The latest stories to reach the PSC include

• The death of 3 Palestinian students attending the UN school in Gaza when aN Israeli rocket destroyed the building.

• Doctors at Gaza's largest hospital al-Shifa having to operate on two or three people at a time.

• According to doctors at the al-Shifa hospital over 45% of the patients they have seen have been women and children

• Gaza is in danger of a cholera outbreak as dead bodies mount up, unable to be buried, the lack of fresh clean water and with only one days medical supplies left

• The UN has less than 48 hours of food left to supply over 1 million people.

• The International Red Cross have described Gaza as 'Major Humanitarian Crisis' saying that Monday night, day ten of the Israeli operation, was the largest military bombardment of Gaza to date.
