AU condemns terrorist attack in northern Somalia

APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) The African Union Commission on Wednesday strongly condemned the suicide attack in northern Somalia where about 20 people were killed.

AU Commission chairman Jean Ping said the terrorist attacks came at a time of renewed efforts by the Inter-Government Agency for Development (IGAD), the AU and the United Nations to bring about lasting peace, security and reconciliation in Somalia.
He reiterated the determination of the African Union to continue to do whatever it can to support the peace efforts in Somalia.
Currently, the AU has over 3,000 peacekeeping forces in Somalia. It plans to deploy 8,000 troops to help the transition government bring peace and stability in the country.
