SOMALILAND CROSS COUNTRY | Marodi Jeeh sweeps top five

BURAO — The Somaliland national youth games concluded this week in Burao with Marodi Jeeh state sweeping the top five individual places for the Cross Country on Saturday.
At least seven of the top ten hailed from Marodi Jeeh in the 10-km championship race.
Jamal Abdi Diriye crossed the finish line first with a time of 32:08 for Marodi Jeeh. Abdullahi Muse Shaqale (Marodi Jeeh) followed with a time of 33:41. The third place belonged to also Marodi Jeeh runner, Khalid Ali Ibrahim with an impressive time of 33:57 and Mohamed Hassan Nageye ‘Baney’ and Abdirahman Dayib Aw-Hassan followed next giving Marodi Jeeh a clean-sweep of the championship.
Mohamud Saeed Salah came in sixth for Sanaag state followed by another Marodi Jeeh runner, Abdiwahab Ibrahim Farah. More than 100 youths from all regions of Somaliland took part in the event.
The host city Burao hailed the two-week long event as a success and thanked all the participants, coaches, athletes and states. The event was co-organized by Somaliland Ministry of Sports and culture, the city of Burao and Somaliland Athletic Federation.
If the sport is developed in the country Somaliland runners are poised to take on regional powerhouses such as Ethiopia and Kenya. Somaliland has already produced one of the world’s current best distance runner Mo Farah.
