THE Save Somalia Beach Soccer tournament will be staged at Coco Beach in Dar es Salaam today in aid of the famine Horn of Africa nation.
According to the Business Development Director, Thami Prusent the first segment of this beach soccer tournament, due to kick off at 2pm, will be a 5-a-side competition for the more physically showpiece. The second segment is the less hectic 2-a-side table soccer (foosball) competition on the beach at the same venue.
"The format for both competitions will be a knock-out one. The numbers of teams involved will be decided once we are on the ground and depending on the response," he said. He explained that the Corporate and professional football teams will be encouraged to enter and will be charged a slightly higher fee than individuals.
A raffle and spectator competitions like penalty kicks against a professional goalkeeper will also be included. Prizes for the winners and one for best trick would be decided by the sponsors who come on board. Volunteers from the Tanzania Youth Vision Association will be used to officiate and manage this event, he said.

A percentage of the proceeds from the food and beer garden will all go to the cause. The Cape to Cairo 4 Free Campaign is the brainchild of Sili Rabbit which is a fresh, inspired and slightly over-the-top urban wear clothing label.
Thami who is the former Big Brother Africa Housemate said that :"Strategically our greatest goal isn't just to be Africa's first Carbon Neutral clothing label which causes no harm to either the environment or the people who live off it but to be a corporate advocate of real change. In light of the catastrophe in Somalia we were compelled to either reshuffle our launch date or at best incorporate measures that highlight our core corporate values."
He told the 'Daily News' in an exclusive interview on Friday that: "Now is the time we put our wishy-washy lip service to the test and live up to our company's mantra of Not On Our Watch.
