HARGEISA(SomalilandPress)—University of Hargeisa today had its 8th yearly commencement attended by the president of Somaliland Ahmed Mohamud Siilaanyo , minister of education Samsam Aden, several opposition leaders and business leaders. Today’s graduating class of 538 students from several schools were the most that the institution had graduating in a single year.
Addressing the graduating class and the audience in attendance first was the Dean of University of Hargeisa Professor Muse Aden Ahmed. Professor Ahmed first thanked the graduating class as he said “today is a historic day for all of you as you become graduates from this high institution”. Professor Ahmed went on to say that University of Hargeisa still needs donors that can help the university achieve its yearly endowment goal and therefore requested from both the government and public sector to donate to the institution. Speaking after the dean of the university was the Minster of Education Samsam Abdi Aden as she said “graduation to class of 2011, it is an honor to see this number of graduates in a single day, I hope that this graduates become those that contribute to their country”.
Also speaking at the event was President Ahmed Siilaanyo who also thanked the graduating class and the business sector that also contributed to the growth of the university. President Siilaanyo acknowledged that University of Hargeisa is the largest higher institution in the country and also that it is a historic institution. To sum it up the commencement at University of Hargeisa was well organized and attended by government officials, community leaders and the business community.
