The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, on Saturday urged Muslims in the country to look for the new Moon of Shawwal on Monday, August 29.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this is contained in a statement signed by Ahmed Abdulkadir on behalf of the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Prof. Abubakar Gwandu and given to newsmen in Sokoto.
According to the statement , this is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Monday , 29th of August , 2011 which is equivalent to 29th day of Ramadan , 1432 AH shall be the day to look for the birth of the new moon for the month of shawwal , 1432 AH.
'' Muslims are therefore requested to look for the new moon of shawwal on Monday and report its sighting to the nearest District of Village Head for onward communication to His Eminence , Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III , the Sultan of Sokoto ,'' it added .
NAN reports that if the new moon of Shawwal is sighted as directed by the Sultan, Eid-el-Fitr would be celebrated on Tuesday, August 30.
NAN recalls that Muslims in Nigeria began the ongoing Ramadan fast on August 1.
