New Vision Online : Two UPDF soldiers killed in Somalia: "TWO Ugandan soldiers with the African Union force in Somalis were killed on Monday in a suicide attack staged by militants on one of the peacekeepers' bases in Mogadishu.
At least three of the attackers died in during the incident.
Al-Shabaab extremists, who pledge allegiance to Al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack and claimed their forces killed eight African Union troops.
The head of Somali security forces, Mohamed Abdulahi, told AFP that two of the suicide bombers were killed before entering the base, but one was able to activate his bomb.
The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) spokesperson, Maj. Paddy Ankunda, said the peacekeepers foiled the al-shabaab plans.
He said several extremists disguised as Somali government soldiers attacked the AMISOM position at Shakala.
“The extremists drove up in a white saloon car and engaged AMISOM troops in a firefight. However, they were unable to gain entry into the position. Three of them were killed, including a suicide bomber,” he explained.
Ankuda added that it was during the attack that the two soldiers died and one was injured.
He explained that three other soldiers were injured, when the body of one of the suicide bombers exploded"
