Somalia: Government And Kenya Sign an Electricity Deal

Nairobi — Somali government led by Sheikh Shrif Sheikh Ahmed has
signed an electrical energy deal with neighboring Kenya, an official
said on Saturday.

Abdurrazak Sheikh Muhyidin, the minister of water, minerals, petrol
and electrical energy has told the local press and given details about
the pact which the two nations signed; adding that Kenyan ministry of
electricity and energy has promised to Somalia electricity generating
devices, including solar devices.

The minister also said Kenya will train the employees of Somalia's
ministry of electricity and energy.
The agreement had been signed by Somalia's electricity and energy
minister and Kiraitu Murungi, Kenyan minister of energy.

Murungi said Kenya will aid the construction of electricity plants in Somalia.
For his part, Mr. Muhyidin said Somali government will enroll all
private electric supply companies in the nation in an effort to unite
them.

Somalia has not had an effective central rule for the last 19 years.
