SOMALILAND: UN Special Representative to Somalia visits Hargeisa
HARGEISA (Somalilandpress) — Mr. Augustine Mahiga, the U.N. Secretary-General's Special Representative to Somalia and four member delegation from United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS) have arrived in Hargeisa on Wednesday for two days official visit.
Ambassador Mahiga, a Tanzanian national, who replaced Mr. Ould Abdallah on June of this year held a closed door meeting with President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud 'Silaanyo' and members of his cabinet including Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Abdullahi Omar.

Mr. Mahiga congratulated President Silaanyo for their democratic elections in late June and cited his office will have new more direct engagement with Somaliland following the recent American "dual-track" policy towards Somaliland and Somalia.
The two sides discussed common area of interest including security, political, economic and social issues including development assistance.
The U.N. recently announced they plan to open new offices in Somaliland and shift their operations from the Kenyan capital.
Mr. Mahiga will be in the country for two days and will hold separate talks with opposition party leaders, members of Parliament and the business community.
This is the first trip by Mr. Mahiga to Somaliland.
