Jijjiga, April 23 (WIC) – The Somali State Animal, Crop and Rural Development Bureau said a safetynet program that could benefit over 409,000 pastoralists has been launched in food insecure woredas of the state.
Bureau Household Assets Building Expert, Ziad Mohammed, told WIC that the program is underway in 15 woredas since last January.
He said 36,879 metric tonnes of grain would be distributed among the targeted beneficiaries.
The program would help pastoralists to ensure their food security. He said the program would be carried out in close collaboration with the federal government and donors. It includes construction of roads, schools and health posts.
He added similar program would also be launched in 17 additional woredas of the state next Ethiopian fiscal year.
According to Ziad, 162, 721 pastoralists residing in six woredas of the state have benefited form the safety net programs carried out over the past two years.
