A corner stone was laid on Monday for the expansion construction of Jimma University at a cost of over 800 million birr ($63 million).
Education Minister, Demeke Mokeneon and Oromia State Chief Abadulla Gemeda laid the corner stone. State Chief Abadulla on the occasion said the activities and research undertakings of the Jimma University has been offering to public are encouraging.
University's president Dr. Kaba Urgessa on his part said the university has already launched the first phase construction at a cost of 330 million birr ($24 million).
The construction includes dormitory, dining hall, classrooms and others facilities, he said. Upon the completion of the construction, it would enable the university to enroll over 3,000 new students, he said.
