Addressing the fourth Council of the Association of Senates ,Shoora and Equivalent Councils in Africa and Arab World (ASSECAA) in Rabat, Morocco on Thursday, Degife said MPs should share experience that would enable them to discharge their responsibility.
The Shoora Africa and Arab councils is an opportunity in this regard.
He said councils should further bolster their relations to address the issues of peace and terrorism and problems that cause human crisis.
The speaker commended effort of the AU and the Arab League to find lasting solution for Somalia.
He called up on MPs to condemn mutinous acts of terrorists and anti-peace elements in particular in Somalia and in general in the region.
Degife lauded the relation and cooperation despite the global economic and financial crisis.
The ASSECAA in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme and the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has organized the first meeting of Women parliamentarians in Africa and the Arab World.
He said the Ethiopian government is striving to enhance the participation of women as ASSECAA highlighted to increase women participation.
The speaker said the historic, economic and political as well as trade and investment relations between Africa and the Arab world must be intensified.
Degife said owing to the ever strengthening relations with Ethiopian parliament, investors are coming to Ethiopia from Arabic countries.
The speaker noted that Saudi-East Africa Forum trade fair that is expected to attract over 100 business organizations is believed to enhance trade relations of the two parties to the higher level.
The meeting is expected to deliberate on peace andsecurity, democracy and good governance, terrorism, poverty reduction as to how enhance their relation among Councils. ASSECAA was established in 2004 and Ethiopia's House of Federation is a founding council.(ENA) |
