Members Of Mediation Committee Meet Ethiopian Minister Of State

Hargeysa, Somaliland, August 22, 2009 (SL Times) – Six members of the
committee that was formed to mediate the political dispute between the
government and the opposition parties met with the Ethiopian Minister
of State for Foreign Affairs, Tekeda Alemu. The Ethiopian Minister of
State revealed that the main reason his delegation came to Somaliland
was to bring the various sides together. He also congratulated the
mediation committee for taking the initiative. On their part, the
members of the mediation committee conveyed to Mr Tekeda Alemu their
commitment to encouraging the government and the opposition to resolve
their differences through talks and persuasion. The mediation
committee also expressed their appreciation of the efforts made by Mr
Tekeda Alemu and the members of the international community who care
about Somaliland.

Minister Tekeda Alemu and members of the mediation committee agreed
that Somalilanders should safeguard their peace and stability and
protect their reputation as a people who resolve their differences
through dialogue.
The six members of the mediation committee that met with Tekeda Alemu
were: Hassan Maygaag, Mahamud Hamud (Nayn), Ahmed Jama Warsame,
Abdirahman Aw Ali (former vice president of Somaliland), Prof. Said
Ahmed Hassan and Yusuf Abdi Gabobe (representing USJ, an independent
journalists association that spearheaded the formation of the
mediation committee).
