By Steve Myall A BRITISH couple on a pilgrimage to Mecca have been killed in a coach explosion in Saudi Arabia.

Dawud Burbank, 49, a translator, and his 48-year-old unnamed wife, were on a coach which had just left Jeddah Airport on its way to the holy city.

The couple, who have several children, were on a bus carrying 29 British and Pakistani pilgrims, which caught fire after the engine overheated and ignited its petrol tank near Al-Tahliya flyover in Jeddah.

Abu Khadeeja, from the Salafi Institute, said Mr Burbank was one of the most revered translators in the West. He said: “I have known them both for over 20 years. He was a very respected and well-liked man.”

Local Mohammed Ajaz, whose brother-in-law saw the explosion, said: “He saw it all and said it was a dreadful sight.”
